About Us

In October of 2015, Pete Brewer and his wife, Betsy, received the phone call everyone hopes they never get. What started as a semi-routine scan of the arteries surrounding Pete’s heart came back with an unexpected result. His doctor told us that Pete had a large tumor on his pancreas and that he might also have a spot on his liver and a lymph node. It appeared that Pete might have stage-4 pancreatic cancer.

Within days of receiving this phone call, we began receiving care at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America. They performed a PET scan and biopsy and came back with great news! The apparent spots on his liver and lymph node were false alarms; furthermore, the tumor on his pancreas proved to be benign. After a major surgery to remove the tumor, he was discharged as a patient on March 8, 2016 with a clean bill of health!

That was our wake-up call! To say this was a life-changing experience for us is an understatement! We became committed to using this second chance at life to give back to our community—especially those facing challenging circumstances of their own.

He holds three business degrees: a Bachelor’s degree from Penn State University, a Master’s degree from the University of Virginia, and a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee. He co-authors three market-leading college textbooks, has published more than 40 journal articles, and has won various research and teaching awards during his career. He has extensive experience as a public-speaker, teacher, mentor, and motivator.

He has published two journal articles that describe how companies can create (1) corporate wellness programs that “motivate, educate, and facilitate” their employees’ health improvement efforts, and (2) performance measurement systems that track the progress of their wellness programs.
